Portland State Broadway update

Students in the engineering program and working to consider different ways to update one of the greenroofs on campus. Like many Portland ecoroofs, after nearly 10 years, this one is much different now compared to the original design.  Students are weighing different maintenance options to ensure continued ecosystem services. Here we are getting new batteries into the weather station. (Photo credits: Laura Gleim)

another greenroof book (chapter 2 is my favorite)

predation

I saw a pinyon jay try to eat a white (cabbage?) moth on a roof today. Unfortunately, I interrupted the meal with my picture-taking.  The traps are also coming back really full, so we can only wonder how much of our catch we are sharing with the birds at this point.

This picture's from a few weeks ago, but we started our season early this year.  We got the traps out by the end of March because it warmed up early here this year...
